Bring Students for Global Health to your university
If there is no active Students for Global Health branch at your university, this is an opportunity to create a new community around global health – or bring a previous branch back.
Starting a branch gives students from across your university a place to meet, explore the issues they care about and develop ideas into meaningful activity.
You will not be doing it alone. Our Branches Team can help you connect with interested students, navigate the process and build a branch that can grow with your community. You are welcome to contact us even if the idea is still at an early stage.
What could your branch become?
A Students for Global Health branch creates a space for students from different disciplines to learn about health equity, meet others who share their interests and turn ideas into local action.
Your branch might organise talks, workshops or conferences; explore global health through a short course; contribute to national campaigns; or develop its own programme around the issues that matter to students at your university.
There is no fixed model. We will help you create a branch that suits your university, community and team.
How it works
1. Get in touch
Email the branches team and we will check whether your university has previously had a branch and connect you with the right Regional Coordinator.
2. Meet your support team
Your Regional Coordinator will arrange an introductory conversation to learn about your ideas, answer questions and help you identify your next steps.
3. Bring together a team
Begin finding other interested students and identifying the roles your university requires. Your students’ union may have its own process for recognising or affiliating a new society.
4. Establish your branch
We will guide you through affiliation with Students for Global Health, provide templates and help you develop a realistic plan for your first term.
5. Launch and connect
Introduce your branch to students at your university and become part of the wider SfGH network. Your committee will continue to receive support, training, resources and opportunities throughout the year.
How we support you
Starting a branch does not mean starting from scratch. We can provide:
- guidance from the Branches Team;
- introductions to students interested in restarting an existing branch;
- a branch starter pack and planning templates;
- example constitutions and support with students’ union affiliation;
- SfGH branding and communications guidance;
- committee and leadership training;
- ideas and resources for your first activities;
- connections with established branches across the UK;
- ongoing national and regional support.

The previous branch has become inactive
You do not need to recreate everything. We may be able to connect you with previous members, share existing information and help you relaunch the branch with a new committee.
