These Terms and Conditions apply when you purchase or receive Students for Global Health membership, create an account, or use the Students for Global Health Members’ Portal.
Please read them before purchasing membership or registering for the portal. By purchasing membership, accepting complimentary access or using the Members’ Portal, you agree to these terms.
1. About us

2. Membership
Membership connects you with the national Students for Global Health network and provides access to the Members’ Portal and the benefits described on our membership page.
Membership benefits may include:
- access to members-only portal spaces and resources;
- national events, conferences and training;
- applications for selected national and international opportunities;
- involvement in working groups, campaigns, policy and advocacy;
- opportunities to connect with SfGH branches and other members; and
- other benefits introduced during your membership.
Specific benefits, events and opportunities may have their own eligibility requirements, availability limits or additional terms.
Membership does not guarantee selection for an opportunity, funding, reimbursement, attendance at an event or access to every activity advertised by SfGH.
3. Eligibility and account information
You must provide accurate, current and complete information when purchasing membership or creating an account.
Membership and portal accounts are personal to the named member. You must not transfer your membership, share your account or permit another person to use your login details.
We may check membership eligibility and account information against our records. We may contact you if further information is needed.
Complimentary membership or portal access may be granted to authorised SfGH volunteers, committee members, trustees, staff, invited contributors or other individuals approved by SfGH.
4. Membership plans and payment
We currently offer monthly and annual membership plans. The price and billing period will be displayed before you complete your purchase.
By choosing a recurring membership plan, you authorise us and our payment provider to collect the stated membership fee from your selected payment method at the beginning of each billing period until the subscription is cancelled.
Payments are processed securely through Stripe. SfGH does not directly store your full card details.
You are responsible for ensuring that your payment information remains current and that you are authorised to use the chosen payment method.
5. Automatic renewal
Monthly membership renews automatically each month. Annual membership renews automatically each year.
Your membership will continue to renew until you cancel it. The renewal frequency, price and other important payment information will be displayed before purchase.
Where required, we will send renewal reminders or other notices concerning your subscription. Failure to read a reminder does not prevent you from cancelling through your account.
6. Cancelling your subscription
You may cancel your paid membership at any time.
Where self-service subscription management is available, you can cancel through your account by selecting Manage subscription or Cancel subscription and following the instructions provided.
If the cancellation control is unavailable or does not work, contact info@studentsforglobalhealth.org. We will arrange cancellation without requiring you to telephone us or provide a reason.
Cancellation stops future renewal payments. Unless a refund applies, your membership and portal access will normally continue until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
You should retain any cancellation confirmation for your records.
Cancelling or deleting your Members’ Portal account does not necessarily cancel an active paid subscription. Please use the subscription-management control or contact us to ensure future payments are stopped.
7. Cooling-off period and refunds
You may cancel a new online membership purchase within 14 days of the purchase date and request a full refund without giving a reason.
You may begin using your membership and accessing the Members’ Portal during this period. SfGH will nevertheless provide a full refund if you exercise the cancellation right within 14 days of the initial purchase.
After the initial 14-day period, membership payments are normally non-refundable. However, we may provide a full or partial refund where:
- a payment has been taken incorrectly;
- you have been charged after properly cancelling;
- a material technical problem prevents us from providing the membership;
- applicable consumer law requires a refund; or
- we agree that exceptional circumstances justify one.
Where applicable law provides an additional cancellation or refund right following a renewal, we will honour that right.
Refunds will normally be returned to the original payment method. Processing times may depend on Stripe and your card provider or bank.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
8. Failed payments
If a recurring payment fails, Stripe or SfGH may ask you to update your payment method and may attempt to collect the payment again.
Membership benefits or portal access may be paused or withdrawn if payment remains outstanding. We will not knowingly continue charging you after a subscription has been successfully cancelled.
9. Changes to membership prices
We may change membership prices from time to time.
A price change will not be applied retrospectively to a billing period that has already been paid for. We will provide reasonable advance notice before a new price applies to a future renewal, giving you an opportunity to cancel if you do not wish to continue.
10. The Members’ Portal
The Members’ Portal provides members and authorised users with access to community spaces, updates, training, opportunities, discussions and resources.
Some spaces may be restricted to particular groups, roles or membership categories. Access to the wider portal does not automatically provide access to every private space.
Portal features and content may change as the community develops.
11. Keeping your account secure
You are responsible for:
- keeping your username and password secure;
- not sharing your login details;
- using accurate account information; and
- notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless the activity resulted from a security failure for which SfGH is responsible.
12. Community standards
Members must use the portal respectfully, responsibly and consistently with SfGH’s values.
You must not:
- post unlawful, abusive, discriminatory, defamatory, threatening, harassing or deliberately misleading material;
- bully, intimidate or target another user;
- share another person’s private, sensitive or confidential information without an appropriate basis and permission;
- reproduce or distribute content from a private space without permission;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, role or affiliation;
- use the portal to distribute spam or inappropriate commercial advertising;
- upload malicious software or attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the portal;
- infringe another person’s intellectual-property rights; or
- use information obtained through the portal for an unauthorised commercial or harmful purpose.
Constructive disagreement and discussion are welcome, but members must participate in good faith and treat others with respect. You can report any breach to the community standards by emailing misconduct@studentsforglobalhealth.org.
13. Content posted by members
You remain responsible for content you post or upload.
By posting content to the portal, you give SfGH permission to host, display, reproduce and process that content as reasonably necessary to operate, administer and moderate the portal.
This does not transfer ownership of your original content to SfGH. We will not ordinarily use content from a private space for external publicity without obtaining permission.
You must ensure that you have the right to share any text, photographs, recordings, documents or other material you upload.
14. Private spaces and confidentiality
Content shared in a private portal space should be treated as private unless the author or an SfGH administrator has confirmed that it may be shared elsewhere.
You must take particular care with:
- personal experiences and contact information;
- internal organisational discussions;
- application or selection information;
- safeguarding matters;
- unpublished documents; and
- information expressly marked as confidential.
If you are unsure whether information can be shared outside the portal, ask the relevant moderator or an SfGH administrator first.
15. Moderation and suspension
SfGH administrators and moderators may review reported material and may edit, move or remove content that breaches these terms, community guidance or the purpose of a particular space.
We may issue guidance or warnings, restrict particular functions, temporarily suspend an account or remove access where reasonably necessary to:
- protect members or the organisation;
- respond to misconduct;
- preserve confidentiality;
- prevent misuse or security risks; or
- enforce these terms.
Where appropriate, we will explain the reason for significant moderation action and provide a reasonable opportunity to raise concerns.
If paid access is ended because of a serious or repeated breach by the member, a refund will not normally be provided, except where required by law. If we end a paid membership for reasons unrelated to the member’s conduct, we will consider an appropriate proportionate refund.
16. Events, applications and opportunities
Events, training, delegations, funding and other opportunities promoted through the portal may have separate:
- eligibility requirements;
- application processes;
- selection criteria;
- deadlines;
- charges;
- cancellation arrangements; and
- codes of conduct.
Membership gives you access to information about relevant opportunities but does not guarantee selection, funding, travel, accommodation, reimbursement or attendance.
Selection decisions may take account of eligibility, the quality of an application, available places, representation and other criteria explained for the relevant opportunity.
17. Educational information
Content and resources provided through the portal are intended for general educational, organisational and community purposes.
They do not constitute medical, legal, financial or other professional advice. You should obtain appropriate professional advice before relying on portal content in circumstances where specialist advice is required.
18. Personal information and privacy
We process personal information to:
- administer membership and payments;
- create and maintain accounts;
- verify eligibility;
- provide portal services;
- communicate with members;
- manage events and opportunities;
- maintain a safe community; and
- meet our legal and organisational obligations.
Further information about how we collect, use, retain and protect personal information is provided in our Privacy Policy.
Please avoid posting sensitive personal information in community spaces unless it is necessary and you understand who will be able to view it.
19. Intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, SfGH owns or is authorised to use the branding, website design, training materials, documents and other content produced by SfGH and made available through the portal.
You may use portal resources for your own personal, educational and non-commercial involvement with SfGH, unless different permissions are stated.
You must not reproduce, sell, substantially modify or publicly distribute SfGH materials without permission.
20. Third-party services and links
The membership service may rely on third-party providers, including WordPress, FluentCart, FluentCommunity and Stripe.
The portal may also contain links to external websites or resources. SfGH is not responsible for external content, availability or privacy practices. A link does not necessarily constitute endorsement.
Your use of a third-party service may also be subject to that provider’s terms and privacy policy.
21. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep the portal available and accurate but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
We may update, replace, restrict or remove features, spaces or resources where reasonably necessary. We will try to avoid materially reducing paid membership benefits without good reason.
Planned maintenance, technical faults, security issues or circumstances outside our reasonable control may occasionally affect availability.
22. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that, SfGH will not be responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you agreed to these terms, or for losses arising from unauthorised reliance on educational or community content.
These terms do not affect rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.
23. Ending your membership or portal account
You may stop using the portal at any time.
You may request deactivation or deletion of your portal account by contacting info@studentsforglobalhealth.org. Account deletion may be subject to retention of limited information where reasonably required for financial records, safeguarding, security, dispute resolution or other legal obligations.
Deleting a portal account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription. Please cancel through the subscription-management facility or contact us separately.
24. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the membership service, portal, organisation or applicable law.
Where a change materially affects members, we will take reasonable steps to notify them through the portal, by email or before their next renewal.
The latest version will be published on our website with its effective date.
25. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also benefit from the mandatory consumer protections and jurisdiction rights applying where you live.
26. Contact and complaints
Questions, cancellation requests, refund requests, technical problems and complaints should be sent to:
