Truro Medsin have started from scratch with an entirely fresh committee this year. While the Truro branch has existed before, the recent split of Peninsula Medical School means that this is the first time that the committee has consisted of only University of Exeter Medical School students. We aimed to make an impact at the Truro Fresher’s fair and were beyond enthusiastic in encouraging students and staff alike to write their thoughts on what #globalhealthis.

Since then, our focus has been on fundraising, with our first event, a sandy sports day at the beach, taking place on a (unfortunately rainy) Saturday in September. We have plans for further events in the new year, including a pub quiz.

We also are liaising with other societies to arrange educational teaches, with the Undergraduate SouthWest Obs and Gynae Society planning to carry out a lecture/discussion on female genital mutilation in December or January.
Truro is a small community of students, but as we all know, medical students are enthusiastic to a fault, and we’re excited to keep providing opportunities for them to apply that enthusiasm towards Medsin’s goals. ◼
